The Mountain is Dierks Bentley's ninth studio album. The writing process came together quickly when Bentley returned to Telluride a short time later for a retreat with fellow songwriters Natalie Hemby, Luke Dick, Ross Copperman, Jon Randall, Jon Nite and Ashley Gorley. The bulk of the album’s songs, including the title track were written during that week, which Bentley describes as the most inspiring creative experience he’s ever had.

Shannon Shaw, the captivating vocalist, bassist, and founder of Shannon & the Clams, will strike out on her own for her first solo album, Shannon In Nashville. Produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach at his Nashville studio, Easy Eye Sound, the album features a cast of revered old-school session musicians which have breathed life into notable records by Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Willie Nelson, and John Prine, to name just a few. The album evokes the tear-jerking intonations of Brenda Lee and Patsy Cline and exudes a self-possessed melancholy that sets the scene for Shaw to comb through a personal history of love lost to time, circumstance, fear or neglect. "The way I typically write songs is: Something has happened to me and I want to encapsulate it. I want to trap and package it, so I can pull it out of my body, and look at it to get some perspective on this event that has affected me," says Shaw of the catharsis inherent in her song-writing process.
Since they appeared with their self-titled, self-released EP back in 2016, Flasher has exuded both a clarity of intent and a radiant self-confidence. Critically applauded from the start, that initial release offered a clear blueprint. By turns razor sharp and woozy, skipping from shoegaze to punk and back again, it offered confirmation of a band whose wiry energy and melodic ease made them instantly arresting. This isn’t the sound of a band finding their feet, it’s the rare sound of three people who know exactly what they want to achieve from the start. From their hometown of Washington, DC, with its rich history of idiosyncratic underground music, Flasher - Taylor Mulitz on guitar, bassist Daniel Saperstein and drummer Emma Baker - have emerged at the forefront of a vibrant musical present. The three of them share vocal duties, sometimes harmonizing in gorgeous counter-melodies that sweep you away, sometimes taking turns to sing in nervous fits of emotion. Constant Image is an album of anxiety and escape, but also one of euphoria and freedom. There’s weight and lightness here. It’s not often a debut album arrives in so complete a form but when it does you know you’ve got something special on your hands.

Tales from Home, the debut album from Eleanor Tomlinson star of the PBS series Poldark, is an enchanting collection of folk-influenced songs. The album is long-awaited by fans of the series after they watched her stunning performances on the hit TV show. Tales from Home features classic hits from Simon & Garfunkel ( Homeward Bound ), Carole King ( Tapestry ) and Bonnie Raitt ( I Can t Make You Love Me ). New digipack CD! Holly Golightly (real name) started her musical career as a founder member of all girl garage band Thee Headcoatees, a Billy Childish / Thee Headcoats splinter group in 1991. She spent four years as a Headcoatee before breaking away to release her debut record, The Good Things, in 1995. Where the Headcoatees sound was a blend of girl group sounds and three-chord garage-rock with all the original songs coming from the pen of Billy Childish, Holly's solo sound is more a blend of pre-rock electric blues, folk rock, and less frantic rock 'n' roll. Apart from the wide range of covers of such artists as Willie Dixon, Ike Turner, Lee Hazelwood, Wreckless Eric, and Bill Withers, Golightly also writes most of her own material. Holly Golightly is definitely the most interesting and diverse artist to come out of the Billy Childish school and is certainly one of the better singer/songwriters of the post-grunge era who gets better with every album. Since her debut in 1995, Golightly has been very prolific, releasing a string of classic long play records and loads of singles for a wide variety of labels as well as touring extensively in America, Australia & Europe. This double vinyl LP, (or single CD newly packaged in a digipack) compiles Holly's first twelve 7 singles, A & B-sides. It includes the bluesy 'No Big Thing' with its bar-room piano and harmonica backing, the dirty guitar-driven 'Til I Get, the shuffling brushed drums and double bass of 'Come The Day, the haunting vocal and bottleneck guitar of 'Stain' and finishes with a brilliant up-tempo cover of Pavement's 'Box Elder'.
Babelsberg – the fifth album by Gruff Rhys – is the Welsh singer/songwriter’s very best work to date. That’s a pretty bold statement, considering the incredibly rich and deep back catalogue he’s amassed over the last twenty plus years (as a solo artist and as a member of both Super Furry Animals and Neon Neon), but in this case, it’s undisputedly true. Lean and laser focused, Babelsberg is a playful ten-song set that properly cements Gruff’s reputation as one of the U.K.’s true national treasures. Although recorded in a feverish three-day burst of activity early in 2016 with help from drummer Kliph Scurlock, Stephen Black (aka Sweet Baboo) and Osian Gwyneth, the record only came together late last year with the help of arranger Stephen McNeff and the National Orchestra of Wales. Their work on the record helped to create a lush backdrop for Gruff’s songs – lush, dreamlike and beautifully timeless. The result is something close to perfection, a place where Gruff found himself “in service to the song and the emotion above anything else” (Mojo). While the songs on Babelsberg are reflective of many of the 21st century’s damning injustices, in the hands of this ever-visionary lyricist, none of them are mired in the kind of gloom that the subjects deserve. Whether on the album opener’s encounter with the embodiment of boorish patriarchy (“Frontier Man”) or its hopeful paean to the idea of positive solutions to god awful situations (“Negative Vibes”) or the closer’s vain attempt to capture the perfect Instagram portrait as the apocalypse dawns (“Selfies In The Sunset”), Babelsberg effortlessly meshes Gruff’s uniquely poetic perspective to some of the most glorious melodies he’s ever written. Blue Water Highway runs just outside of Freeport up towards Galveston along the Texas Gulf Coast. This is the part of the world where the cultures of Texas and Louisiana collide in a unique melting pot steeped in the traditions of the people of both sates. It is here, in the town of Lake Jackson, TX, that Zack Kibodeaux and Greg Essington grew up, became friends, and began playing music in local coffee shops and bars. After High School, Greg headed to New York City to pursue a degree in music technology. Zack went to Texas State in San Marcos to study vocal performance, specifically opera. Zack would eventually coax Greg back to Texas to form the band they dubbed Blue Water Highway after the stretch of road that their lives centered around on the coast of Texas. Heartbreak City marks the band's most ambitious album to date as they have worked very hard to hone and refine their sound. The album was recorded in Texas with the producer known as Machine at the helm. Both live and in the studio, the band continues to explore new sounds and musical landscapes while remaining true to their roots along the Blue Water Highway.
