'I feel like I'm in a totally new band right now,' says Dr. Dog guitarist/singer Scott McMicken. It's a bold declaration considering he's been co-fronting the beloved indie outfit for a decade-and-a-half, but it cuts straight to the heart of the intense and transformative experience behind the group's brilliant new album, 'Critical Equation.' Produced by Gus Seyffert (Bedouine, Michael Kiwanuka), 'Critical Equation' is the most infections and adventurous collection Dr. Dog has laid to tape yet. The record was born from a journey of doubt and discovery, a heavy, sometimes painful reckoning that ultimately brought the band closer together with more strength and clarity than ever before. Call it an existential awakening, call it a dark night of the soul, whatever it was, it fueled one of the most fertile creative periods in the group's history.

It has been two years since the release of his chart-topping, record breaking album RIPCORD, but on Friday, April 27th, Keith Urban returns with his ninth studio album, GRAFFITI U. The 13-track recording, which includes his current single “Coming Home,” featuring Julia Michaels. The intimate image on the GRAFFITI U album cover was taken by world-renowned photographer Mark Seliger.
Cicada Rhythm is Andrea DeMarcus and Dave Kirslis. Following their 2015 self-titled debut, Cicada Rhythm consciously decided to build upon their homespun, stripped-down folk sound by bringing in more musicians and multiple producers to their latest record, Everywhere I Go. Recorded in a string of studios across the southeast, it's a snapshot of a band on the move, with new members filling their lineup and a louder set of influences propelling their sound forward. There are roots-rock tunes, slow waltzes, front-porch folksongs and backwoods ballads, all delivered by a group of road warriors who've cut their teeth not only in the writing room, but onstage, too. Kenneth Pattengale (Milk Carton Kids) and Oliver Wood (The Wood Brothers) share production duties, giving Everywhere I Go a broad, diverse punch.
”Kings Among Scotland,” the band’s long-awaited live album, arrives in stores on April 27, 2018. Captured last February 15 at the band’s sold-out concert at Glasgow’s historic venue Barrowland Ballroom, the two-hour “Kings Among Scotland” incorporates the band’s entire live show. The concert is also available on on DVD.
The Yonkers, NY born singer-songwriter uses airy vocals and vivid lyrics to draw listeners into her soulfully emotive world on her debut album Pendulum. "A major theme of every human’s experience is that we’re constantly swinging between good and bad," says Aisha of the album’s theme. "We can’t avoid it. By realizing the that the swings aren’t permanent, you begin to develop the ability to control how you feel about the unfortunate events that may arise in your life."
'You're Driving Me Crazy' is a new studio collaboration between Van Morrison and legendary Hammond organist Joey DeFrancesco. It features interpretations of jazz and blues standards as well as selections from Van Morrison's songbook and is the follow-up to 2017's 'Versatile', Van's chart-topping jazz album.
Stimulator Jones’s music never draws on just one place or time, instead dipping in and out of classic styles from the 1970s and ’80s to the present day. On his debut album Exotic Worlds and Masterful Treasures, his elastic voice and instrumental grooves effortlessly evoke the heady feel of R&B favorites like Rick James, K-Ci & Jo Jo, Aaron Hall and The Gap Band
Strawberry Wind, Produced by Richard Swift (Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Foxygen, The Shins) not only delivers on a promise to create an honest album for kids and parents, but it represents what Baylin calls the "beautiful divide," of juggling family life with her creative life, a difficult task by any measure. “The divide in me is easy to feel because I invest 100% of myself into my family and often the creative gets put to the side” she explained, “so when I decided to begin writing for this album it just poured out of me.” And, now singer/songwriter Jessie Baylin is sharing that creative outpouring on her debut children's album, Strawberry Wind. Throughout the album, Baylin doesn't hold back on telling it like it is. Weaving through lyrical themes of dream life, supermoons, and summertime vibes are some gentle doses of reality. “I don't want to lie to my kids. Life is hard sometimes and you need to find a way to deal with it… there will always be things in life you can't control. But, you can dream of a better world and make your own refuge," says Baylin, who is mom to 4-year-old Violet and is expecting her second child with her husband. Baylin, who's released four critically-acclaimed albums over the years, says the seed was planted for this album after recording a cover of Harry Nilsson's "He Needs Me" from the kids' film Popeye. “The song has a childlike sense, but the message is very deep. It's magical, it's dark, and it hit all the right notes. I wanted to do an album that feels like that" she says. "Since becoming a mother, I found myself being around the house a lot and I started gravitating to these wonderful albums I remembered from my own childhood — The Beatles, Harry Nilsson's The Point!, John Lennon, Roger Miller's Robin Hood and Carole King's Really Rosie” The magic of those iconic '70s records she mentions is that they're all grounded in solid songwriting and were never dumbed down for the audience. "Those records felt very honest and that was my mission here. I also wanted it to feel magical and remind people of the child inside of all of us that is filled with a sense of wonder and pure joy and hope."

Start your engines, ladies and gentlemen: nothing`s off limits for these Welsh ragga rock / metal pioneers Skindred and their seventh album Big tings! Roaring and pounding, the follow-up to 2015`s Volume is a magnificent beast churning out heavy, distortion-laden riff punches melting into vocalist Benji Webbe`s frenzied rapping. Explosive metal and punk material rubs shoulders with smooth melodies – and of course Skindred wouldn`t leave us on the dancefloor without a hefty helping of their trademark Godzilla-esquely huge choruses. Big songs, big sound! Check out the new single ‘Machine‘ (featuring vocals by Reef frontman Gary Stringer and guitars by Phil Campbell of Motörhead). The track is so infectious, that none other than former AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson had to nab it as an intro and outro theme to his own TV show "Cars That Rock"! Catch Skindred and that infamous Newport helicopter action live on a full U.K. tour in April 2018 with special guests CKY – more dates coming soon.
Vinyl LP pressing. 2018 release by singer/songwriter Bart Davenport and his band. Recorded in Los Angeles, Blue Motel alludes to LA with the lights down. A new project by Davenport, his seventh album since his solo breakout in 2002, the sounds on Blue Motel are an amalgam of '80s UK pop and West Coast yacht rock jams, sprinkled with cinematic flourishes, the four piece led by Bart Davenport is united in their affection for the sophisticated sounds of groups like Prefab Sprout and Style Council. Their jangly pop aesthetic, resplendent with choppy chorus tinted guitar, snappy snares, sax and bass is underlined with life trodden stories about day jobs, dating, financial insecurities, lost innocence and most prominently, time travel. Davenport's songs are delivered with a happy and sad sensibility reminiscent of Burt Bacharach. From the surreal yet humorous 'The House That Built Itself' to the sad surf music of 'Halloween By The Sea' or the romantic L.A. noir of the title track, Blue Motel arrives with a spoonful of tears, a nod and a wink.
Vinyl LP pressing. 2018 release. Not long after recording her tenth album Ruins, Liz Harris traveled to Wyoming to work on art and record music. She found herself drawn towards the pairing of skeletal piano phrasing with spare, rich bursts of vocal harmony. A series of stark songs emerged, minimal and vulnerable, woven with emotive silences. Inspired by "the idea that something is missing or cold," the pieces float and fade like vignettes, implying as much as they reveal. She describes them as "small texts hanging in space," impressions of mortality, melody, and the unseen-fleeting beauty, interrupted. Grid Of Points stands as a concise and potently poetic addition to the Grouper catalog. "Grid Of Points is a set of songs for piano and voice. I wrote these songs over a week and a half; they stopped abruptly when I was interrupted by a high fever. Though brief, it is complete. The intimacy and abbreviation of this music allude to an essence that the songs lyrics speak more directly of. The space left after matter has departed, a stage after the characters have gone, the hollow of some central column, missing." -Liz Harris.
Kobra Paige and her motley crew kept their word and now they deliver the second part of their opus magnum one year after the release of Prevail I! Prevail II is the proverbial yang to the yin and continues right where Kobra And The Lotus left off in 2017. The opener ‘Losing My Humanity‘ is an exemplary melodic feast of both guitar and vocal craftsmanship that anchors the Canadian five piece firmly in between hard rock and heavy metal with a modern touch and the occasional classic rock! The catchy ‘Let Me Love You‘ is another brick to this massive wall of sound, but a solemn intermezzo like ‘Ribe‘ and the elegiac ‘White Water‘ attest to their musical virtuosity lending taste to the vulnerable and emotional side of the band. Kobra And The Lotus know perfectly well what it takes to cater to the needs of hard rock and metal fans in 2018 without losing touch with the essential roots (just check out ‘Modern day hero‘)! ” It was an immensely challenging experience but it pushed and pulled the best out of us“, comments leading lady Kobra. Who could argue with her on that one?
