The Electric Fetus - Outside The Heard - December 2016

Harvey Madel
Snake Pit
Tompkins Square
Harvey Mandel played with Canned Heat, John Mayall and the Rolling Stones, and released solo albums on the Phillips and Janus labels in the 70's. Considered one of the most innovative and influential blues-rock guitarists, he has played on stage in the past few years with Bob Dylan and Gregg Allman. Snake Pit was recorded at Fantasy Studios with musicians who have played with Ryley Walker and Sun Kil Moon.
God Don't Never Change:
The Songs of Blind Willie Johnson
Alligator Records

God Don’t Never Change hits artistic paydirt like few tribute albums have, thanks in no small part to the outstanding performances by some of music’s biggest names, including Tom Waits, Lucinda Williams, Sinead O’Connor, Cowboy Junkies, Luther Dickinson, Ricki Lee Jones, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi, and more. God Don’t Never Change is packed with transcendent recordings that speak as much to the greatness of the performers as they do the enduring legacy of Blind Willie Johnson.
Bill Laurance
Live At Union Chapel
GroundUp Music
Recorded in late May 2015, Live at Union Chapel features the very best of the Snarky Puppy keyboardist’s solo catalogue. Featuring his SP bandmates Michael League (electric and upright bass) and Robert “Sput” Searight (drums), with contributions from percussionist Felix Higgenbottom and a full string section and French horn, this is a truly great contemporary jazz piano concert with nods to jazz icons Bill Evans, McCoy Tyner, and Herbie Hancock, Joe Zawinul, and Chick Corea.
Peter Doherty
Hamburg Demonstrations

Produced, recorded and mixed by Johann Scheerer, The Libertines and Babyshambles singer / songwriter / former miscreant, Peter Doherty took to Hamburg to make the album after 'falling in love' with the Clouds Hill Recordings studio and moving to the German city for six months. The record also features a new recording of the Amy Winehouse tribute 'Flags Of The Old Regime' (now called 'Flags From The Old Regime'). A tuneful and inspired collection of roughshod beauties, Doherty once again proves why he’s worthy of our admiration.
Matter + Spirit
The End

The Candles have earned a reputation for weathered, back-alley roots rock. But with their third album, Matter + Spirit, the quartet adds a layer of wind-blown dust, embracing the open space and honest sensitivity of the American heartland like never before. Singer / songwriter Josh Lattanzi took a new approach to Matter + Spirit, committing himself to focused stories capable of standing on their own – no matter the arrangement. What emerged was a sound forged in the sunset rock of the ‘70s but tempered by twang.
Highly Suspect
The Boy That Died Wolf

"I was the boy, and was a wolf," says Highly Suspect frontman Johnny Stevens of his hard upbringing in Cape Cod and the last eight years as a band desperate for a break in Brooklyn. "I killed that part of me, and now the man is left." The Boy Who Died Wolf, the latest album from the hard rock trio, was recorded in Bogota, Colombia and Brooklyn with Joel Hamilton (The Black Keys, Tom Waits), who also worked with the band on their 2015 debut breakthrough record, Mister Asylum, which was nominated for two Grammys.
Vanishing Life
Dine Alone
Vanishing Life are a supergroup of sorts featuring Walter Schreifels (Quicksand, Gorilla Biscuits), Zach Blair (Rise Against), Jamie Miller (Bad Religion, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead), and Autry Fulbright (Midnight Masses, ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead). Collectively, Vanishing Life combines the polish of Fulbright and Blair's past projects with the brute charm of the MC5’s proto-punk R&B and the pounding relentlessness and ranting of The Fall.
It’s been five years since French house music titans Justice have graced dance floors with brand new music. Finally the wait is over: Justice’s new album Woman is a groovy journey that encapsulates both laser-guided disco precision and free-form house music workouts. It’s as strong, complex, and beautiful as the title implies. "Woman is a very powerful, beautiful word," says Justice’s Xavier de Rosnay. "If we're honest with ourselves, much of what we do is mostly to please women or make them proud of us. It's a tribute to the women in our lives… mothers, daughters, lovers, friends, collaborators." Woman catapults you from the elastic R&B pop of “Pleasure” straight into the rush of “Alakazam!” “Fire” its way through a dazzling bout of thumping electronic piano and clavinet sparring, barely pausing for breath before it lands at “Stop” - a sparkling, bittersweet slice of dance pop that boasts one of Justice’s best choruses. “Randy” has a melody Michael McDonald would have killed a fellow Doobie Brother for (if Michael McDonald was into gut-shuddering electro). “Love S.O.S.” is a disco anthem for a new generation. Vinyl comes with a copy of the CD, 3 full sides of audio and one side etched.

Because Music

The Coalition of Independent Music Stores (CIMS) is a group of some of the best independent music stores in America. CIMS was founded in 1995; its current membership is made up of 29 accounts that handle 47 stores in 21 states. Many of the accounts have been recognized by the music industry and their local communities for their outstanding dedication to customer service and developing artist support.

Each member is bound by its shared love of music, a reputation for great selection and customer service in its community, yet each CIMS account is as unique as the market it represents. Most importantly, CIMS member stores continually seek to challenge the jaded, color-by-numbers advertising and marketing of other retailers.
