Feminine Complex

A road paving, agency grabbing, '69 girl group garage band trip! Pressed on double pink vinyl!

Nashville, 1966: five young girls teach themselves their instruments playing along to the radio. Initially named 'The Pivots' and by the end of '67 christened as The Feminine Complex, they were playing out and developing a local following including radio and television appearances. They created their own versions of popular songs, a style that reflected their need to express their own experience of girlhood. Gender bending 'boys' songs' they simply changed the lyrics, modifying the major characters and pronouns creating a space for themselves inside the music where they were able to become the agents of their own wishes, needs and desires. Come '68, they appeared on NBC's nationally syndicated Showcase '68, hosted by Lloyd Thaxton paving way to their cult status.

It is not allegorical to say that in some way, they widened the entrance to the historical vacuum that a generation later would come to be filled by Riot Grrrl and rock 'n' roll camps for girls. The Feminine Complex were not just a good band because they were girls, or because they were the first girls. They are a good band because they are. Lucky for us, we have these recordings, so we can continue to hear why.

Features the original '69 album plus 11 originally unissued tracks!

01. Hide And Seek 02. Now I Need You 03. Are You Lonesome Like Me? 04. I Won’t Run 05. Six O’Clock In The Morning 06. Run That Thru Your Mind 07. It’s Magic 08. I Don’t Want Another Man 09. 'All These Perfect Crosses is a collection of songs that came from the sessions for Faith In The Future, We All Want The Same Things, and I Need A New War. For Craig, these three records are one body of work, and the songs on this collection are pieces of that larger narrative. Kelly Finnigan

Kelly Finnigan’s debut solo album for Colemine Records represents the culmination of his 15 years of experience - in the studio as a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, engineer, producer - and touring the US and Europe as a singer, musician, and band-leader. The content reflects his dedication to expression through the rich American music traditions of soul, gospel, doo-wop, and R&B. The subject is love. Its ecstasies and heartaches. Love sought, found, betrayed, lost, and rediscovered. The result is a marvelous collection of songs and performances that run the gamut from whispering tenderness to roaring appeals; from lean and mean to lush and lovely. And always…always, manifestly honest, and undeniably soulful. With Finnigan guiding these songs from their conception all the way to the record pressing plant, the new release provides the singular voice missing from soul music: a visionary that writes, records, performs and produces his own material.

Colemine Records is proud to present the instrumental version of The Tales People Tell, showcasing Kelly's superior production and arrangement talents.

1. “I Don't Wanna Wait” 2. “I'll Never Love Again” 3. “Smoking & Drinking” 4. “Every Time It Rains” 5. “Catch Me I'm Falling” 6. “Since I Don't Have You Anymore” 7. “Impressions Of You”

The Fleshtones

Legendary garage rockers The Fleshtones have been pumping out hits for over four decades, earning them the honor of being "America's Garage Rock Band." They're one of the final remaining original CBGB bands, they've played on Andy Warhol's short-lived MTV show while Sir Ian McKellen read Shakespeare over their jamming, and were the last band to publicly perform at the World Trade Center's Windows on the World. However, what's most incredible about The Fleshtones is that they're putting out some of their best music forty years into their career, as evidenced by their new album Face of the Screaming Werewolf. Featuring soon-to-be-hits done in the inimitable Fleshtones style, such as "Alex Trebek," "Spilling Blood at the Rock & Roll Show," and their cover of the Stones' classic "Child of the Moon."

* Rare Blaze Foley recordings from the Austin Outhouse circa 1989
* Includes bonus 45 a version of “If I Could Only Fly” and “Let Me Ride in Your Big Cadillac.”

“Live at the Austin Outhouse” captures Blaze Foley, Austin's legendary singer-songwriter, at his final appearance at the iconic Austin Outhouse venue. Recorded over two nights in 1989 just days before his tragic murder these twelve tracks are available on vinyl for the first time. Recorded by his friend John Casner these now classic Blaze tracks were for years only shared on hand-made cassettes among a small network of friends and fans. This vinyl LP marks the twenty-year anniversary of their initial release on CD by Lost Art Records.

While Blaze’s reputation as a singer-songwriter has exploded in recent years, access to his catalog on vinyl has not kept pace. The tracks here include many of his classics; Clay Pigeons (covered by John Prine), If I Could Only Fly (covered by Merle Haggard), Election Day (covered by Lyle Lovett) and nine others. Blaze is joined in this set by several of Austin’s most beloved musicians including Champ Hood and Sarah Elizabeth Campbell. “Live at the Austin Outhouse” reveals Blaze to be as talented and soulful as his friends and running buddies Townes Van Zandt and Lucinda Williams.

Foley is also the subject of a documentary film, Blaze Foley – Duct Tape Messiah, directed by Kevin Triplett, and the 2018 feature-film, Blaze, directed by Ethan Hawke.

The package includes a bonus reproduction copy of the Blaze’s rare 1979 Zephyr Records 45 RPM record. Recorded in Houston, Texas on a label that quickly disappeared, the Zephyr 45 never received commercial distribution. The 45 includes
a version of “If I Could Only Fly” and “Let Me Ride in Your Big Cadillac.”

In 1964 and 1966, when Serge Gainsbourg participated in the two public recordings at the “Maison de la Radio”, he is undoubtedly the outstanding protagonist of the evening. It was at this moment that his, according to his own words, “blue period” came to an end. This period was characterized by left-bank songs, tinged with notes of jazz and exotic rhythms.

This single LP edit of Piñata has been lacquered at half speed master by Metropolis Mastering in London for the highest fidelity and is housed in a Blaxploitation-themed cover exclusively for Record Store Day 2020.

This single LP version of Piñata, the acclaimed rap album from 2014 that debuted at Number 39 on Billboard’s Top 200, is presented in a unique cover for RSD 2020. The cover is a collaboration between Jeff Jank and Pathetic Pixels with inspiration found in the unique graphics and content of 1970s Blaxploitation films. Piñata is “a gangster Blaxploitation film on wax,” says Gibbs, who came up on the streets of Gary, Indiana, the disregarded city previously best known for producing Michael Jackson. Here he is joined by Mac Miller, Earl Sweatshirt, Raekwon, Scarface, Domo Genesis, Ab-Soul and a host of others in setting his soliloquies of the streets alongside film snippets and dusted funk, soul and prog musical tapestries.

This version of Piñata comes on the heels of the 2019 release of the duo’s acclaimed album
Bandana, named Album of the Year by Hypebeast, Rap Caviar, and many others, and is a welcome reminder of the undeniable musical chemistry that first catalyzed six years ago, elevating Freddie Gibbs and Madlib to the upper echelon of the genre’s teams, and placing a classic album alongside the others Madlib issued over the years, from Madvillain’s Madvillainy to Quasimoto’s The Unseen.

Jimmy Giuffre

Jimmy Giuffre’s early collaborations with pianist Paul Bley and bassist Steve Swallow resulted in music that was far more complex and experimental than jazz audiences of the time had come to expect. While Giuffre may not be a marquee name, he should certainly be credited as one of the innovators who helped redirect jazz into new forms of improvised activity beginning in the early 1960s. This performance, recorded on October 27, 1961 in Graz, Austria, is a perfect example of that innovation. Receiving its first ever vinyl pressing, the concert audio was mastered for vinyl at Infrasonic Mastering and pressed across two 12” LPs at Pallas Group in Germany, exclusively for Record Store Day.

Philip Glass

Through his operas, his symphonies, his compositions for his own ensemble, and his wide-ranging collaborations with artists ranging from Twyla Tharp to Allen Ginsberg, Woody Allen to David Bowie, Philip Glass has had an extraordinary and unprecedented impact upon the musical and intellectual life of his times. The operas - ''Einstein on the Beach,'' ''Satyagraha,'' and ''Akhnaten,'' among many others - play throughout the world's leading houses, and rarely to an empty seat. Glass has written music for experimental theater and for Academy Award-winning motion pictures. Glass is the first composer to win a wide, multi-generational audience in the opera house, the concert hall, the dance world, in film and in popular music - simultaneously. Much of his early work was based on the extended reiteration of brief, elegant melodic fragments that wove in and out of an aural tapestry. Or, to put it another way, it immersed a listener in a sort of sonic weather that twists, turns, surrounds, develops.

In the past 25 years, Glass has composed more than twenty-five operas, large and small; twelve symphonies; three piano concertos and concertos for violin, piano, timpani, and saxophone quartet and orchestra; soundtracks to films ranging from new scores for the stylized classics of Jean Cocteau to Errol Morris's documentary about former defense secretary Robert McNamara; string quartets; a growing body of work for solo piano and organ.

Orange Mountain Music is proud to announce the special RECORD STORE DAY 2020 release of the complete soundtrack to the classic film KOYAANISQATSI for the first time on vinyl and limited to 1500 numbered units.

Directed by Godfrey Reggio with an iconic score by Philip Glass, KOYAANISQATSI premiered in 1982 and quickly became a cult classic. With cinematography by Ron Fricke and containing no plot or words, KOYAANISQATSI was interpreted by some to be an anthem for the environment and by others to be an indictment of modernity. Overall, the film was hailed for its pioneering techniques which have been variously imitated over the past four decades.

In convincing Philip Glass to become a primary contributor to the making of the film, Reggio found the perfect analogue to what he was trying to express through the images. The score that Glass composed was groundbreaking and came at a time of new expressivity for the composer. KOYAANISQATSI came at the end of the period when Glass was composing his landmark ''Portrait Trilogy'' of operas based on people who changed the world through the power of their ideas.

The title of the film comes from the Hopi language, and is defined as: ''life in turmoil, ''life disintegrating,'' ''crazy life,'' ''life out of balance'' or finally, and definitively, ''a state of life that calls for another way of living.''

The score is presented here in its complete form, starting with pipe organ and the basso profundo of singer Albert de Ruiter singing the title of the film. The music ends almost 75 minutes later with a choir singing ''Prophecies'' which are translated as:

* ''If we dig precious things from the land, we will invite disaster.''
* ''Near the day of Purification, there will be cobwebs spun back and forth in the sky.''
* ''A container of ashes might one day be thrown from the sky, which could burn the land and boil the oceans.''

This new release represents the first time that the full presentation of the music is heard on vinyl. The LP release of this Glass score was released in the 1980s in a severely truncated form with only 6 tracks and 45 minutes of music. This newly re-mastered recording features 12 tracks and over 76 minutes of music including the original sound-effects and additional music used in the film.

This new double album/double gatefold release includes images from the film. In 2019, Harvard Film Archive acquired the Godfrey Reggio film archive and is currently in the process of documenting and digitizing the collection. As part of this release, Orange Mountain Music acquired high resolution stills from the film to use as images on this release.

This version of Koyaanisqatsi is the most complete and representative recording of the soundtrack to this seminal film. Performed by the Philip Glass Ensemble along with a full roster of studio musicians conducted by Michael Riesman, the music director of the Philip Glass Ensemble since 1974, and produced by Glass’s longtime music producer Kurt Munkacsi.

In the ’60s, Ennio Morricone renewed the world of soundtracks in such a radical way that it is still influential today, thanks to his collaboration with film director Sergio Leone. In the following decade, another artistic partnership, the one between Goblin and Dario Argento, made a second revolution in the same field, in particular in the music of thriller and horror films. A full global scale renewal, which has inspired a myriad of artists in the decades to come to the present day, and will continue to do so in the future.

To celebrate the genius of one of the most talented and influential bands in the history of soundtracks, Cinevox Record, in collaboration with AMS Records, has worked on a ‘Best Of’ divided into two parts. The first section covers the initial 1975-79 period, the one in which an incredibly inspired group wrote immortal scores for masterpiece films such as "Profondo Rosso", "Suspiria" and "Zombi / Dawn of the Living Dead", as well as the Italian progressive rock gems "Roller" and "Il Fantastico Viaggio del Bagarozzo Mark".

Thanks to this collection, a Record Store Day 2020 exclusive release, you’ll discover why the Goblin were great and unique, and why defining them 'revolutionary' is not an exaggeration at all. This first volume also contains a rare edit version of the song “Roller” - different from the one used in the regular LP and used in the European release of George Romero’s “Martin” movie edited by Dario Argento - and the two parts of “Chi?” merged for the first time in a single 6-minute cut.

Robbie Basho

Robbie Basho (1940-1986) is widely regarded as one of the progenitors of what's commonly known today as American Primitive guitar. Growing up in Maryland alongside neo-traditional guitar explorers John Fahey and Max Ochs, Basho's path would take a decidedly different turn, bringing Hindi, Indian, Japanese and Native American musical traditions into his work. His albums for Takoma and Vanguard have left an indelible trail of influence across generations of musicians, from William Ackerman and Pete Townshend to Ben Chasny and William Tyler.

Liam Barker first became aware of Basho having purchased Tompkins Square's reissue of Venus in Cancer, released in 2006. This led him on an incredible fact-finding expedition, unraveling the many layers of mystery surrounding Basho's life and death, all deftly compiled and depicted in his documentary film, Voice of the Eagle: The Enigma of Robbie Basho. During the research process, Barker came across a large cache of unheard Basho tapes recorded throughout his career, ranging roughly from 1965-1985. By arrangement with Basho's estate and the original custodians of the tapes, Tompkins Square now released Song of the Avatars : The Lost Master Tapes, a 5CD set of previously unreleased material. For Record Store Day 2020 they’ve curated a vinyl LP of special selections.

John Harding Wesley

In May 2002, Disney pulled the plug on Mammoth Records just weeks before the June 25th release date of John Wesley Harding's The Man with No Shadow. No more than 300 hundred journalists received advance CDs of Harding's new record, while only a handful of radio stations received the single "Negative Love'. No other physical copies existed. Over the years those advance CDs have fetched untold hundreds of dollars from an eager fan base in search of Wes' great 'lost" album. Though many - but not all - of the songs ended up on 2004's Adam's Apple (DRT Records), which All Music Guide called 'the finest album of his career', those that did make the cut were in a jumbled running order. The album has never previously been released on vinyl. The Man With No Shadow First Edition restores the album to Wes's original vision. The audio has been remastered from the original tapes, and the package includes cover art from the original sessions and extensive liner notes. The CD package includes the original album plus a bonus unheard band demos and studio outtakes, all previously unreleased.

Screamin' Jay Hawkins

Jalacy J. Hawkins, better known as Screamin' Jay Hawkins, was born on July 18, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio. As a young man, he played piano, boxed in local championships and learned opera at the Ohio Conservatory of Music. Although initially pursuing opera after returning from serving in World War II, Hawkins eventually sharpened his focus on the darker side of R&B and jazz, using macabre stage props, absolute wildman persona and expert voice imitating the blare and squeal of saxophones. His most notable chart-topper was the boozy, raucous 1956 hit ''I Put A Spell On You,'' which was banned by many radio stations for its suggestive groans and grunts. All things considered, Screamin' Jay Hawkins is considered one of the earliest pioneers of what would become shock rock.

Recorded in 1969, years following his big hits, Screamin' Jay Hawkins' third album What That Is! showcases Hawkins in one of his most rowdy and compelling stages of his artistic career. With a killer backing band featuring the great Earl Palmer on drums for most of the cuts and Herb Ellis guesting on a few. We find Jay singing about life, love and loss as well as feasting Mau Maus and pain, REAL PAIN.

From the album notes- ''Producer's Note: This album was recorded live at the Club Amigo in North Hollywood on June 23rd and 24th, Nineteen Hundred and Yesteryear, and is dedicated to President Nixon, whose efforts to recapture the era of the early 50's do not pass unnoticed.'' We debated swapping out Presidents' names. Jay would have liked that.

All things considered, Screamin' Jay Hawkins is considered one of the earliest pioneers of what would become shock rock.

Recorded in 1970, Hawkins' fourth album finds the artist at a point of transition. Although Jay had found commercial success and his sales surpassed one million units, he had grown somewhat weary of his shock/voodoo/bogeyman persona and wanted to be taken more seriously as a singer. Luckily for us, Jay only tones down the yelling and the crooning and the grunting and the groaning marginally. The tracks here are every bit as wild as you would hope and a bit more mature (note: a very little bit).

Because Is In Your Mind, also known as Armpitrubber, is packaged in a wonderfully psychedelic painting by Karl Wirsom of the hugely influential Chicago art collective The Hairy Who.

Humble Pie

Following last year’s Humble Pie Official Bootleg Collection Volume 1 double LP comes the Official Bootleg Collection Volume 2, curating rare and previously (officially) unreleased live shows that were illicitly recorded between 1971 and 1981.

Emerging from the remnants of The Small Faces, Humble Pie formed in 1969 when guitarist and vocalist Steve Marriott joined forces with Peter Frampton, drummer Jerry Shirley and bassist Greg Ridley, and began their ascent to conquering the theatres and then arenas of North America, culminating in 1972’s double live Performance: Rockin’ The Filmore album. Frampton left in 1971 for a highly successful solo career, replaced by Colosseum's Clem Clempson, and it was this line-up that was captured in New York in 1971, at one of Clem’s first shows with the Pie. The extemporisations of Performance: Rockin’ The Filmore became the basis for much of Humble Pie's live repertoire for the remainder of the 1970s, but this 1971 New York show does include their unique take on Eddie Cochran's 'C’mon Everybody' and 'I Wonder' from the soon to be released Smokin' LP.

Side Two finds the Pie backed up by the soulful vocals of The Blackberries--Venetta Fields, Clydie King & Billie Barnum==who appear on “Oh La-De-Da”, ‘” Don’t Need No Doctor” and “30 Days In The Hole.”

Humble Pie split in 1975 following their Street Rats LP, but not before Side Three’s Philadelphia show on March 15, 1975, featuring ‘Four Day Creep’ and ‘I Don’t Need No Doctor’.
The Pie would eventually reform for 1980's “On To Victory” comeback record, this time with a line-up featuring Bobby Tench from the Jeff Beck Group on guitar and vocals and bassist Anthony “Sooty” Jones.

Side Four from Privates Club, N.Y.C. on March 25, 1981 features the epic 23 minute take of ‘30 Days in the Hole’ / ‘I Walk on Gilded Splinters’.

Housed in a gatefold sleeve, with plenty of rare memorabilia, the booklet features an essay based on new interviews with Pie drummer Jerry Shirley.

Josefus

Look into the third eye adorned on Get Off My Case's album cover for a window into the dead end of Houston's '60s through the psyche of four longhairs fresh from high school. Conceived in the arid, bone dry air of a Phoenix recording studio and subsequently shelved, Get Off My Case offers a precursory glimpse at early hard-rocking Texans, Josefus. Four tracks from this first session were later re-tracked for their cult-followed LP Dead Man (1970), but the remaining three songs serve as a capsule to their later realized potential. Get Off My Case exists in the temporal intersection where waning vestiges of hippie optimism meet the terror of emerging reality underlined by the gore of Altamont and Manson. Hints of psychedelic leftovers remain under the enveloping shroud of swampy crunch coaxed out by the sex and scrap of British blues influences. Comes with eight-page booklet. June Of 44

Originally released in 1996, June of 44’s second album is a long nautical mile from their debut, 1995’s Engine Takes To The Water. Recorded at Chicago Recording Studio and Idful Recording and produced by Bob Weston (Shellac, Mission of Burma), Tropics and Meridians is a collection of rhythmic phrases meant to be perfumed of whatever the listener would like them to be. The music veers from the subtly lilting and melodic to the fierce and abrasive, often with the space of a few bars. Rollicking on the high seas, but then slowing down to float on a glass-like waterbed, the band bring us their unique brand of the quiet storm, set to music of course.

Out of print since 2006, this RSD 2020 exclusive is pressed on glacial blue vinyl and limited to 2000 copies worldwide.

Ned Lagin
Ned Lagin's Seastones is a groundbreaking electronic work which features musicians Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, David Crosby, Grace Slick, David Freiberg, Mickey Hart, and Spencer Dryden. Interweaving musical technologies with sound art, science, linguistics, philosophy, and early music, Seastones is comprised of pieces that are dynamic, rich and deep. It embodies the technological history of electronic music by taking full advantage of tape music, synthesizers, and computer technology. Originally released by the Grateful Dead's Round Records in 1975 and marketed to Deadheads, Seastone’s reputation as a gem of electronic music was overshadowed by the celebrity of the musicians who contributed to the source material. This LP draws from released and unreleased Seastones tracks and contains gorgeous extended Garcia vocal passages processed by Lagin who was an intermittent member of the Grateful Dead until the band broke up in 1974. Audiophile quality LP cut by Golden Mastering and pressed at RTI for optimal sound.

Alfredo Linares / Su Sonora

"Alfredito 'Sabor' Linares is a globetrotting pianist, composer, bandleader, and producer from Lima, Peru with a long, prolific career in hot Latin music spanning more than half a century. Though Linares has come to recent international fame through his work with William 'Quantic' Holland, he was already quite popular and famous in his adopted countries of Colombia and Venezuela in the ‘70s and '80s during the salsa boom. However, his career began in Lima, backing timbalero Ñico Estrada at age 17 in 1961, and Alfredito's first notable recording as a sideman was a few years later on the now legendary El Combo de Pepe album for IEMPSA/Odeon.

Subsequently Linares would advance his career by recording two fabulous records under his own capable leadership as Alfredo Linares Y Su Sonora at the end of the decade for the MAG label. These releases capitalized on recent developments in New York Latin music, namely Latin jazz, boogaloo, descarga (jam session) and what would later be marketed as 'salsa' with roots in the Cuban guaguancó and guaracha genres. One can hear direct inspiration coming from Joe Cuba, Ricardo Ray, and Eddie Palmieri, especially on the first album, El Pito, and yet by the second record, there are plenty of original tunes as well. More importantly there is a 'swing' and assertiveness to the playing (and arrangements) that prove every bit as authentic, tough and danceable as their New York inspirations . . . .

That special 'swing' also emanated from Linares' ace backing band, which happened to be a talented stable of MAG studio musicians who all understood Cuban and jazz music: percussionists Mario Allison and Coco Lagos, bassist Joey di Roma, Kiko Fuentes, and Carlos Muñoz on lead vocals and Melcochita on coro (vocal chorus). According to Linares, the studio band was 'open-ended, some musicians came some days, others on other days -- Nilo Espinoza on saxophone, Betico Salas and Tito Chicoma on trumpets. Otto de Rojas played piano, and so did Charlie Palomares, who played vibraphone. Another good musician was guitarist Carlos Hayre.' Though the recordings were cut 'live in the studio' and many were basically composed on the spot, the intrinsic strength and maturity of the performances on Yo Traigo Boogaloo stand the test of time as one of Peru's most important contributions to tropical music across the decades, establishing Alfredito Linares as a master of the idiom and serving as a harbinger for great things to come for him in Colombia and Venezuela..." --Pablo E Yglesias DJ Bongohead of Peace & Rhythm

Jay Bennett / Burch,Edward

The Palace at 3AM is the first (and only) collaboration between the late Jay Bennett and his songwriting partner, Edward Burch.  After fronting Minneapolis legends Titanic Love Affair from 1994-2001 Bennett was a key member of the band Wilco, often co-writing songs on the band's early releases with Jeff Tweedy.  The power struggle was well documented in the Wilco documentary I Am Trying To Break Your Heart in which Bennett was fired as the cameras rolled.  The band was working on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at the time.  Bennett immediately teamed up with Burch and The Palace at 4am was released on the same street date in 2002 as Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.  Hardcore Wilco fans loved the release and immediately started making comparisons on who was the real 'genius' of Wilco, Bennett or Tweedy. Bennett passed away suddenly in 2009 and with the blessings of his family, ten years after his death Schoolkids Records has teamed up with Edward Burch to release The Palace at 4am for the first time ever on vinyl for RSD 2020.  The album also includes the track "My Darlin'" which was also on Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, re-recorded by Bennett for this release. Available on vinyl for the first time in the US for RSD2020, the album contains what Rolling Stone called “its triptych of instantly classic singles” - “The Drowners”, “Metal Mickey” and “Animal Nitrate”.
Originally released in March 1993, “Suede” was the fastest-selling debut album ever in the UK, and contains what Rolling Stone called “its triptych of instantly classic singles”: “The Drowners”, “Metal Mickey” and “Animal Nitrate”.

At the time, the album’s release in the US was hampered by an injunction from an existing US act called Suede. As a result, the band’s subsequent album releases in the US were ‘branded’ as being by “The London Suede”, but the first album was never re-branded until now. It’s pressed on 180g clear vinyl in the US for the first time as The London Suede.

The sequel to last year's RSD edition of Blood on Black Wax. It's not a *true* sequel, however, as it works well on its own.

This RSD 2020 release includes 240 pages of sci-fi/fantasy soundtrack recaps, interviews, and full-color vinyl soundtrack artwork. This time out the focus is tighter ('60s to '90s). However, television soundtracks are also featured in a chapter (Star Trek, Doctor Who, Twilight Zone, etc.). In a way it's even more accessible than the first book, with popular franchises including Star Trek, Star Wars, Mad Max, Batman, Ghostbusters, Blade Runner, Back to the Future, Superman, Planet of the Apes, Jurassic Park, E.T.....plus a decent amount of cult favorites.

The included 7” single is of music by Christopher Young (Pet Sematary/Drag Me To Hell/Species) created for but unused in Tobe Hooper's '86 version of Invaders from Mars, remixed for this release. It’s pressed on anti-freeze green vinyl with custom artwork by Hagcult.

Also includes a bookmark hand-numbered and signed by authors Aaron Lupton and Jeff Szpirglas

Jack Marino & Mahogany Rush

When headbanger historians look back on the important heavy metal and hard rock bands that were active during the '70s, Mahogany Rush's name doesn't come up nearly as often as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Kiss, Van Halen, Judas Priest, Blue Öyster Cult or Aerosmith -- and that is regrettable because Frank Marino led one of the '70s' most exciting hard rock/metal outfits. Mahogany Rush is, without question, underrated. Marino's refusal to change with the times is just as well -- he is great at what he does, and the singer/guitarist is as inspired on original material as he is on performances of the Zombies' "She's Not There" and two Hendrix classics: "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" and "Red House."
Recorded live at Club Soda in Montreal, Canada on September 8, 2001.

Alongside guitarists Gary Kemp (of Spandau Ballet), keyboardists Dom Beken and Lee Harris (of Ian Dury and The Blockheads), and longtime Pink Floyd touring bassist Guy Pratt, Mason drew rapturous crowds throughout North America and Europe in 2018 and 2019 – including dates at The Roundhouse in London, the historic venue that counted Pink Floyd as its first performance in 1966. Ahead of a dazzling audiovisual release of material from the Roundhouse sets during May 2019, this collectible 12” single features two performances from those sets (including Pink Floyd outtake “Vegetable Man,” played for the first time ever on this tour) backed by a custom etching.

Paul McCartney

One of the greatest solo debuts in rock history, Paul McCartney's McCartney, will receive a special 50th anniversary release in a limited-edition half-speed mastered vinyl pressing for Record Store Day.  Originally released in April 1970, one month before The Beatles’ swansong Let It Be, McCartney saw Paul getting back to basics. Writing every song and playing every instrument (with backing vocals from Linda McCartney), the eponymous album represented a creative rebirth, bursting with new ideas, experiments, playfulness and freedom. Sonically, McCartney's bare-bones home recording aesthetic imbued the album with an authentic lo-fi spirit, a much sought after sound that continues to retain a contemporary edge 50 years on. The 50th anniversary Record Store Day limited edition of McCartney was pressed from a master cut by Miles Showell at half speed using the original 1970 master tapes at Abbey Road Studios. It was made as a vinyl specific transfer in high resolution and without digital peak limiting for the best possible reproduction.

lonious Monk

* Record Store Day 2020 Exclusive Release
* LP limited to 2,000 copies worldwide & pressed on 180gm vinyl
* Includes an exact reproduction of the original concert poster from 1963

"Thelonious Monk (1917 – 1982) was an American jazz pianist and composer who needs little introduction. He had a unique improvisational style and made numerous contributions to the standard jazz repertoire…Monk is the second-most-recorded jazz composer (after Duke Ellington) and received prestigious awards for his career achievements (including a Grammy, a Pulitzer Prize and an induction into the Music Hall of Fame). Thelonious Monk is one of five jazz musicians to have been featured on the cover of Time magazine. Monk was highly regarded by his peers and by critics, but often his music was regarded as too ""difficult"" for more mainstream acceptance.

Thelonious Monk's compositions/improvisations feature dissonances with complicated melodic twists and are consistent with his unorthodox approach to the piano (which combined a highly percussive attack with abrupt, dramatic use of switched key releases, silences, and hesitations). Monk was known for a distinct look which included suits, hats, and sunglasses. He was also noted for an idiosyncratic habit during performances: while other musicians continued playing, Monk would stop, stand up, and dance for a few moments before returning to the piano.

Thelonious started playing the piano at the age of six and was largely self-taught…at 17, he was playing the church organ, and in his late teens he began to find work playing jazz. In the early to mid-1940s, he was already a house pianist in several Manhattan nightclubs. In 1944 Thelonious Monk made his first studio recordings…and since then he recorded classic albums for labels such as Blue Note (1947-1952), Prestige (1952-1954), Riverside (1955-1961) and Columbia (1962-1968).

By the mid-1970s Monk had disappeared from the scene and made only a small number of appearances during the final decade of his life. Thelonious Monk died of a stroke in 1982, leaving us with an unparalleled legacy.

In 1963 Monk was at the top of his game. With his steady quartet of veteran collaborators, he had landed himself a new contract with Columbia and recorded 2 milestone albums for them (Monk’s Dream and Criss-Cross). Soon after Thelonious Monk started touring in Europe to promote his freshly recorded material…and he brought his critically acclaimed line-up with him on tour: Charlie Rouse on saxophone, John Ore on double bass, and Frankie Dunlop on drums.

On the album we are presenting you today (Palais Des Beaux-Arts 1963) you’ll find unearthed Belgian concert-recordings from that era. The show consisted of 2 parts…both were recorded by the national Belgian broadcast company BRT/RTB who had the best recording-equipment on the market at the time. The set we unearthed here (the BRT recordings part) consists of tracks from said Columbia albums which have now become omnipresent Jazz standards.
Monk took the stage in his unique style with a grey wool Papakha as his hat choice. At that point unseen for the attending crowd…the showman shuffled across the stage, waving his arms as if he was about to lift off. He would take the crowd on a ride they would never forget. It was the first time Thelonious Monk played the prestigious Palais des Beaux-Arts venue in Brussels to an enthusiastic crowd of Belgian Jazz fans. Full house! The quartet delivers their set with true tight mastership (mixed with Monk’s trademark improvisational avant-garde flair) and leaving room for a jaw dropping minute long drum solo mid-set. All this...and as an encore, the famous Monk solo rendition of the classic song Just a Gigolo…make this a must-have for any self-respecting Jazz aficionado.

This release is the product of a labor of love from a dedicated professional team of archivists and musical technicians who have spent the last 15 years carefully restoring and cleaning more than 80 years of Belgian audiovisual culture, bringing these audio-gems from their vaults in Brussels into the digital world and preserving them for future generations.

Tidal Waves Music now proudly presents the FIRST ever vinyl release (these recordings were never issued on ANY format before) of Thelonious Monk ‘Palais Des Beaux-Arts 1963’. This unique piece of musical history is a collaboration between the Tidal Waves Music label, the VRT (Flemish Radio and Television organization) and Bozar (Centre for Fine Arts Brussels) with full approval of the Thelonious Monk Estate. This concert album comes as a deluxe 180g vinyl edition (strictly limited to 2000 copies worldwide) with obi strip. Also included is an exact reproduction of the original concert poster from 1963…released exclusively for Record Store Day 2020 and available in participating stores on April 18."
