Reviews:

''The Sea and the Rhythm'' is the second EP from Iron & Wine (aka Sam Beam), released on September 9, 2003 by Sub Pop Records. The song "The Sea and the Rhythm" was featured in the final episode of the first season of ''The O.C.'' - Wikipedia

Singer/songwriter Sam Beam conjured ghosts on last year's The Creek Drank the Cradle with his haunting, understated vocals and Nick Drake-style guitar finger-picking. Beam's music continues to play off of Flannery O'Connor's vision of the majesty of the Old South on this taut EP, a collection of outtakes from the same bedroom sessions that spawned his debut record. Amongst the highlights: Beam lisping "the milk from your breast is on my lips" on the title track before stark banjo chords extinguish the candle-lit passion. Beam's lone weakness as a songwriter may be his barefoot literary style, because his melodies aren't often as pronounced as his powder-keg imagery-but that's something that may roll in when he hooks up with Brian Deck to massage his next full-length record later this year.
