Vinyl LP pressing. Honey Pie Records present a reissue of Dollar Brand Plays Sphere Jazz, originally released in 1962. This is the first trio album from the great South-African pianist Dollar Brand (later known as Abdullah Ibrahim). One of the first African musicians to speak out from a different Jazz perspective. Recorded in Johannesburg in 1962 and reissued here for the first time on LP, Plays Sphere Jazz is also one of the very first African jazz productions. This is vibrant and emotionally powerful music performed by an extremely inspired trio including Dollar Brand himself on piano and two other historical South-African musicians: Johnny Gertz on bass and Makaya Ntshoko on drums. A great album, rescued from the mists of time almost 60 years later.
