The great R&B tenor saxophonist Lorenzo Holden shows off his chops on the rockin' instrumental single Pie à la Mode" b/w "Top Hat," originally released in 1955 on the Pasadena, California based Mambo Records label. Holden was the spectacular saxophonist whose playing was prominently featured in Johnny Otis' band, and on recordings by vocalist Little Esther and others. On this single he is backed by legendary West Coast pianist and arranger Ernie Freeman fronting an organ combo. Both sides of the single feature exquisite tenor solos, rockin' and soulful - and some fiery organ playing from Freeman. This rare gem is presented here newly remastered.
